Jerusalem mayor calls for closure of Jerusalem neighborhood after deadly stabbing
An Israeli police officer was stabbed in Jerusalem on Wednesday evening in what police described as a random attack.
A video posted on Facebook shows a man running toward the officer as the officer is stabbed.
The officer was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The attack comes amid heightened tensions between the Jewish and Arab populations in Jerusalem.
Police said they were investigating the incident as a hate crime.
The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Earlier in the day, the Jerusalem Police said an officer was seriously wounded in an attack at the city’s Tzedek neighborhood.
At least one person was killed and five others were injured in a stabbing near a mosque in the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
In Jerusalem, police shot and killed a Palestinian man who they said was suspected of stabbing three people in the city on Tuesday.
Witnesses told police the man was shot in the chest and was lying on the ground when he came across the suspect, who had stabbed him before.
He was rushed into surgery and later died.
Police did not identify the man, but the man had previously stabbed at least two Palestinians, a police spokeswoman said.

On Tuesday night, at least one Israeli soldier was killed by a Palestinian after he allegedly shot a soldier in the head.
The incident took place in the southern city of Hebron, where Palestinian and Israeli forces are engaged in a battle over the disputed Qalandiya region.
Israel launched a ground offensive against the Palestinians in the area last week, but Palestinian groups say the offensive is too little, too late.
Palestinians say the ground offensive is intended to force them to leave the area.
Last month, two Palestinians were killed and six others were wounded when a Palestinian car rammed into a group of Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank.
