Posted December 16, 2020 15:53:07President Donald Trump and the White House say their job growth numbers are still strong, but that unemployment is still very low.
The unemployment rate fell to 7.6 percent on Wednesday from 8.3 percent on Tuesday, according to the Labor Department.
That was the lowest since March 2021, when it fell to 8.8 percent.
The jobless rate has dropped from a peak of 11.3 million people in January 2017 to a low of 6.3 in November.
That is the lowest level since December 2009.
The Labor Department’s final monthly report for December was released Thursday.
It showed a 0.3 percentage point increase in employment, which was also the slowest rate since December 2020.
The economy added 175,100 jobs last month.
